02 Sep Ready to Shine
We are under two weeks away from the 49ers kicking off against the Arizona Cardinals, and I can’t tell you how excited I am about this day finally coming. This offseason has dragged on for what feels like an eternity, and now is finally coming to an end.
There is a lot to be excited about regarding this team, as they are both lead by a core group of savvy veterans (Trent Williams, Richard Sherman) and budding super stars (George Kittle, Fred Warner, Nick Bosa).
One major question can be raised for this team nonetheless: Who will be the breakout player? Which guy will have that “Wow” season that will surely surprise many?
With guys like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, who had incredible seasons last year, could It be them? Or could it be someone we maybe couldn’t see coming (Armstead, Pettis)?
Out of the many choices of players that could breakout, I can only think of one that will almost surely breakout: Raheem Mostert!
With all due respect to everyone on the team, I have to admit that Mostert just feels like the best guy to have that truly dominant season that’ll turn heads all around the league.
After a season that featured him averaging over 5.5 yards per carry while rushing for 772 yards on part-time duties, Mostert will be set-up for success, as he’s been preparing for a bigger role in Kyle Shanahan’s RB-friendly offense.
Mostert himself has said that he’s bulked up, also adding that he is preparing to take on a 200-carry workload for the season. If he does get this number of carries and can be as efficient as last season, we could very well see him bring home the rushing title, something that a 49er hasn’t done since 1954!
Even if he can’t reach this grand feat, I think we can all get the feeling that he will have a fantastic season. Is 1,000+ yards and 8 rushing TDs too much to ask?
With the team on the brink of another super bowl run, many players will stand out. If anyone can stand higher amongst the other stars, I have a strong feeling it’ll be Mostert.
