19 Aug Brandon Aiyuk Already Turning Heads
With training camp and padded practices officially under way, the spotlight is on the 49ers, who are looking for vengeance and seek to make the Superbowl once again.
This is the time for players, particularly rookies, to make a name for themselves and fight for a coveted roster spot. With no preseason games to boot, rookies must showcase their abilities in all aspects of the game during camp if they want a shot to make the team.
One rookie for the team, Brandon Aiyuk, has reportedly separated himself from the rest of the group in terms of his ability to grasp the playbook.
On Saturday, coach Kyle Shanahan said that he’s “Been real impressed with [Aiyuk]”. “He was very impressive on the Zoom meetings, just his attention to detail. Since we’ve gotten here, just going through these walk-throughs and stuff, you can tell he knows how to practice like a pro. You can tell he comes prepared every day. He’s not a guy you have to teach how to act, or teach how important it is to learn this stuff. You can tell he understood that before he got here.”
Not often do you see Shanahan sing high praises for a rookie WR, as many have noted that his offensive playbook is not easy to grasp right away, as DeeboSamuel has said in the past.

If Aiyuk transitions into this offense with ease, he could very well be a contender for Rookie of the Year.
With the loss of Jalen Hurd to what is a reported torn ACL, Aiyuk’s role will likely be increased, as Hurd had high expectations going into this season.
That’s not to say other names like Jauan Jennings, Trent Taylor, and Kendrick Bourne won’t step up, however, with draft position in mind, as well as the injured DeeboSamuel, Aiyuk must be ready and poised to take on Shanahan’s never-ending playbook.
The expectations are high in Santa Clara for rookie Brandon Aiyuk, who will look to help lead an offense that is one of the most explosive in the league.
