49ers awarded two compensatory picks in 2021 NFL draft

Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch | San Fransisco 49ers

The 49ers officially have a total of 10 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, earlier in the day we were awarded two third-round compensatory picks and another in the fifth round. After the error was corrected we ended up with one compensatory pick in the third-round pick, fifth-round pick, and that second third-round pick reverts back to its original position in the 2023 draft.

The third-round compensatory picks come after the New York Jets hired Robert Saleh as their head coach and the Washington Football Team made Martin Mayhew their General Manager.

The fifth-round compensatory pick comes from the loss of Emmanual Sanders who was acquired mid-season in 2019 from the Denver Broncos and left in Free Agency to the New Orleans Saints.

The 49ers lost their original third-round pick to the Washington Football team to acquire Trent Williams via trade mid-draft in 2020. Our final fifth-round pick came from the Kwon Alexander trade with the Saints, ending with three fifth-round picks. The 49ers also received a seventh-round pick along with Jordan Willis from the New York Jets, for a 2022 sixth-round pick.
