26 Apr 2020 NFL Draft Recap — Niners Come Out on Top?
The 2020 NFL Draft was extremely eventful for the San Francisco 49ers. However, aside from the first round, the 49ers were pretty quiet in the draft. They started off the night by trading back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 13 to 14, acquiring the 117th pick by doing so. Now, even with WRs Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb available at 14, the 49ers decided to take South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw. This move was widely criticized by fans online. However, it was apparent the 49ers were set on replacing their biggest loss of the off-season — DeForest Buckner, who was traded to the Colts.

Even though the 49ers started the night with picks 13 and 31, they did not pick players at either of those spots. The 49ers moved up from 31 to 25 by sending picks 31, 117 (which they had just acquired moments ago) & 176 to the Minnesota Vikings. They used the 25th pick to select Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk, who the 49ers claim was the #1 WR ranked on their board. They also revealed they considered taking him at 14 had Javon Kinlaw not been there.

The 49ers did not have any picks on day two of the NFL Draft. Although many expected them to trade back into the 2nd or 3rd round due to the amount of talent still left on the board, the 49ers had different plans!
Usually day 3 of the NFL Draft doesn’t have too many explosive stories breaking. However, the 49ers continuously kept the media on their toes all day. The eventful day started off with the big news that the 49ers had traded for Washington Redskins LT Trent Williams. They sent their 2020 3rd and 2021 5th round picks in exchange for the top-tier LT. This news was followed up with the devastating news that 49er fan-favorite and longest-tenured 49er was retiring due to health concerns.

Later on in the day, the 49ers announced they had traded RB Matt Breida to the Miami Dolphins in exchanged for a 2020 5th round pick. They then used that pick to select West Virginia OT Colton McKivitz.

Shortly after that, the 49ers announced they had traded WR Marquise Goodwin to the Philadelphia Eagles for a swap of 6th round picks. This trade was largely seen as a way to clear cap space for the newly acquired Trent Williams.
